This Project will help to minimize the problems of the big street dog and cat population in Romania around Giurgiu. The support for poor people and street animals to get the problem solved for long term.
Hundreds of thousands of dogs have been poisoned, slaughtered, put to sleep or put to death in other ways worldwide to solve the stray dog problem. Alone, all of these barbaric efforts only result in a brief drop in population density. The only recognized and functioning approach to influence a population in the long term is to neuter the animals of the population while they remain in the area.
If you castrate an entire population effectively and also prevent other growth opportunities (abandoning dogs, immigration from outside), the problem could be solved within a generation of dogs. Especially in remote areas or on islands, an enormous effect of castration actions can be seen after a short time.
The main problem is that too few organizations have specialized in castration and often there is only a short-term commitment to carry out such campaigns. Our experience has taught us that long-term project loyalty and massive presence are two of the most important factors for a long-term reduction in the population of stray animals.
