Cats Of Gili project have supported the infamous cat population living on the Gili islands, Indonesia since 2013. We look after kittens and any sick or injured cats brought to us. We also organise big and free spay/neuter clinics a few times a year to help keep the cat population healthy and under control. In times of crisis (such as Lombok earthquakes in 2018, and Covid pandemic stopping tourism totally) we step in to keep our island cats well fed and looked after.
There are hundreds, propably thousands of cats, on Gili islands, Indonesia . Many have homes and are well looked after, but most are homeless or stray. The lives of Gili island cats have improved dramatically over the last decade, but they still breed rapidly and occasionally get sick or injured. In times of crisis, such as Lombok earthquakes in 2018 and Covid pandemic stopping tourism completely, Cats Of Gili steps in to ensure our island cats are well fed and looked after.
We continue providing help and care for cats in need. We support and educate local cat loving families, providing help, advice and free cat food when needed, to gain long term trust, and to improve the well being and care of pet cats. Organizing regular cat vet clinics a few times a year means we can get professional help with sterilisations, minor surgeries and general veterinary care. We never turn away a cat in need.
We can house up to 10 sick/injured cats at a time, plus 2-3 nursing mommy cats with kittens, ensuring they don't have to spend time on the streets but get the care they need. The more we work with the local community, the more they see the benefit in properly caring for their pets. Continuing to run free cat clinics will improve the overall health of the cats and also reduces the population of stray cats dramatically. Our goal is a healthier, happier cat population on Gili islands.
