Cabo Pulmo National Park in Mexico is home to the only coral reef in the California Gulf and the Mexican North Pacific. However, coastal development and increasing tourism represent severe threats to its conservation. Pronatura Noroeste & Baja Coastal Institute aims to strengthen locals and visitors through the Visitors Center, informing more than 22,000 yearly visitors about sustainable management, good practices for responsible tourism, and the conservation of natural resources in the region.
Cabo Pulmo National Park hosts more than 80% of the coral species recorded in the Gulf of California, is habitat for more than 500 species and provides valuable environmental services to the local population. The increase in tourism creates a need of awareness and quality education accessible for everyone. Continue with the Visitor Center activities is a priority to contribute to its conservation by providing key information that encourages visitors and locals to become change maker.
The Visitor Center will provide information about the activities that can be developed in the protected natural area, offer detailed information about Cabo Pulmo's underwater and terrestrial treasures on the two museum kiosks, science outreach projects at the amphitheater, a cultural agenda, forums, classes, workshops, and films for locals and visitors to inspire both to care for and respect this site.
