In response to the devastating June 24 double earthquake in Venezuela that left thousands homeless, Fundacion Chamos launched an immediate emergency response and is now advancing Construyo con Chamos-a long-term recovery program providing clean water, physical rehabilitation, psychosocial support, and medical care to help displaced children and families rebuild their lives.
On 24 June 2026, magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes struck north-western Venezuela, leaving over 5,000 dead, 17,000 injured, and thousands homeless. Displaced families are now living in emergency shelters without school, basic services, or stability. Children are facing acute physical trauma-such as fractures, crush injuries, and amputations-as well as severe emotional stress and heightened risks of malnutrition and lack of clean water.
Transitioning to long-term recovery, Construyo con Chamos supports displaced families through four key programs: Construyo Jugando (play-based psychosocial support with ASOVENCAMP), Construyo Rehabilitando (pediatric physiotherapy and psychological care with FundaProcura), Construyo Gota a Gota (safe water access via LifeStraw filters), and Construyo Nutriendo (child nutritional recovery).
Construyo con Chamos delivers sustainable physical, emotional, and nutritional recovery for hundreds of earthquake-affected children and their families. By providing structured psychosocial care, specialized rehabilitation for injured youth, clean drinking water, and nutritional support, this project prevents long-term trauma and health complications. It strengthens local community resilience, ensuring displaced children can safely recover, regain stability, and rebuild their lives.
