Summary

Champ was thrown out at our gate. Can you imagine going from thinking you were part of a family to being dumped out like garbage? Your first few days at an animal shelter can be scary and making this adjustment can be eased by having a clean, safe and comfortable place to lay your head. Champ and others like him need new kennels, repairs to existing kennel doors, new kuranda beds, and new water pails. Champ needs you because life can be scary, but your help gives them hope that someone cares.

Challenge

Kennels and guillotine doors wear out over time, and ours never get a break since the shelter is always at capacity. The facility is older and constant cleaning and use causes the door frames to rust, making sanitation and their use difficult. The same problem affects the outside run gates and even the metal water pails. The kuranda beds that give the dogs a clean safe place to sleep get worn over time as well and need parts or the entire bed to be replaced.

Solution

New kennel doors made of polymer with tempered glass windows would not rust, and the solid doors will keep the dogs from viewing each other, easing stress on them. These doors can stand up to the constant cleaning and will improve sanitation. Guillotines dividers that work properly provide more safety. New kuranda beds allow for better sanitation and provide a comfortable bed during their stay. New water pails ensure the dogs have clean water that doesn't leak into their kennel.

Long-Term Impact

This project will give dogs like Champ a safer, more sanitary, and comfortable environment during their stay here. Some, like him, come in heartworm positive and must stay longer to complete their treatment. Having a clean kennel with doors that give them some privacy provides them a sense of security, and the ease of cleaning ensures we are keeping them healthy. With new guillotine doors, kuranda beds and water pails, Champ and many others will greatly benefit from this project.
