"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." (Nelson Mandela). Help us cover expenses for the Gbarnga Mission school which serves almost 250 students living in poverty in a community in rural Liberia.
Liberia suffered 14-years of civil war, devastating the educational system and other critical services. As a result, over 1/3 of Liberian children are not enrolled in school. Across West Africa, 80 percent of 10-year-olds cannot read and understand a simple text by the end of primary school. Many families are forced to choose between education, food & healthcare. Education is essential for breaking the cycle of poverty yet the cost of tuition, uniforms, and supplies is too burdensome.
The Gbarnga Mission school provides elementary education to children through Grade 7 with an emphasis on literacy and practical skill development. Older students and young adults in the community participate in free vocational training.
The Gbarnga Mission school currently serves 243 elementary students and nearly 80 young adults in vocational training classes, which will give them immediately marketable skills on their path out of poverty.
