Frequent power outages plague parts of rural Bangladesh. Sundarbans coastal communities are suffering from frequent power outages. More than 80% people of the Sundarbans' coastal region live below the poverty line. Due to their poverty, parents hardly purchase Kerosene for their children’s education purposes.
Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) provided 2,800 solar lamps, 1,700 solar panels, 504 solar home systems, 100 solar generators, and 200 batteries among
3000 families and 11.6 KW/hour, 7.5 KW/hour, and 3.0 KW/hour solar stations have been installed at public institutions.
Feedback from the beneficiaries:
A supported school student expresses his feelings ‘‘now I am very happy. I got the chance to study in bright light at night. This solar light is not just a light; it is a blessing for me. In past I couldn’t continue my education at night properly; I used to read for a limited time and went to bed early. Now I can study my lesson and modules at night and my academic result is improving day by day.’’
The solar lighting system plays a important role to increase students’ performance, both academically and personally.
We would like to thank all our donors for being so kind to us and we hope that our kind-hearted donors will spread out their helping hands for the betterment of the underprivileged coastal students by starting monthly recurring donations;
