Project Title: Change life through supporting a solar lamp

Project summary:

Most of the Sundarbans coastal region of Bangladesh is non-electrified and people here are very poor so maximum people live in dark due to the increasing market price of kerosene. Student’s education gets hampered for the want of light at night. Sometimes students’ education comes to an end and they engage with collecting natural resources specially depend on Mangrove forest in their whole life. But one single solar lamp can change a student entire life.

Theme: Education/Children/Poverty

What is the problem?

Lack of electricity has adverse impact of a non-electrified area’s Students. So, number of dropout student increases day by day for the shortage of light in the Sundarbans coastal area of Bangladesh. Literacy rate of Bangladesh is 61.5% but this rate in the Sundarbans region is very low due to poverty and unconsciousness of the parents. Dropout students of Sundarbans coastal region generally involve them with natural resource harvesting. So, by the process they create extra pressure on the Sundarbans Mangrove Forest resources. Sometimes they engage with anti-social activities. Dropout girls get married at an early age and as a result they face pregnancy problems and give birth to malnourished children. In a word, so many social problems arise when literacy level gets down. It also creates a strong barrier to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Bangladesh governments RUPKALPA.

How will this project solve the problems:

Sundarbans coastal poor community who can’t afford to buy Kerosene will get solar lamps from this project. So, the students who are at the risk of stopping their study due to lack of light; will be able continue their study in the long run. The students will able to study at night. It will enhance their study. These solar lights will provide safety to the family members at night from disaster and wildlife. So, the number of dropout students will be decreased.

Potential Long Term Impacts:

A solar light helps a student to continue their study. When students become educated, they become an asset for the society. They involve in social development activities. An educated man goes against the prejudice and social problems. Educated generations can change the total scenario of a society. If we support the students by providing solar lamps; we believe it will change their entire life and at the same time those educated people will become the leaders to solve all the social problems.

Requested Budget: USD12987

We have requested USD 12987 and up to now we raised $60 and hope we will raise rest of the fund very soon then we will start to support our communities so please cooperate us to support our children from dark to light.
