An Initiative for Better Home4BetterLife

Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has been working to improve the living standard of the women of the coastal women (Mathurapur village Munshijang union of Shyamnagar sub district of Satkhira district) by providing several training and also encouraging them. 

Impact:

I learned tailoring from the trains of BEDS. At first, I learned measurement and cutting of the cloths. After that, they taught making dress using tailoring machine. I can make different dresses and take order from local people and shops. In covid pandemic, I earned around BDT 15,000 by making masks and bags. I am contributing to my family income and this brings solvency in my family income. I can lead a safe and respectful life with this earning. Before they did not pay attention to my need, decision. Now they ask for my decisions. The villagers also respect me.

Feedbacks from the beneficiaries:

One of beneficiary expresses her felling. ‘‘I worked day and night to earn money for my family. As a woman, I faced several barriers to earn our livelihood due to some social and regional conflicts. I did not get proper respect from my family members. But now I am making dresses, mask and bags. My husband is selling the masks and we are getting much profit. I am contributing to my family income and my in laws are taking care of me. Now they respect me, my hard work. Now there is no such barrier to earn money. By tailoring I lead a safe and respectful life. I want to be a good tailor and also want that other women of our village get the training so that they can lead a respectful life.’’

Capacity building training and sewing equipments are necessary for the women to improve their life standard. So, BEDS has taken an initiative to empower 50 women of Mathurapur village by developing their skill on sewing and also providing them equipments related to sewing through raising fund from GlobalGiving platform.

So, it’s a heartiest appeal to all the donors for being kind to help those vulnerable women to give them a chance to come out from the cycle of poverty and lead a respectful life.

Women empowerment is also very important because no country will develop keeping half of its population in darkness. Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has been trying to improve the life standard of those women by homestead vegetable gardening, duck and ram raring, tailoring etc.

The women of Mathurapur village of Shyamnagar sub district of Satkhira district are the example of the worst sufferers. The people of Mathurapur village live below the poverty line and subjected to several natural disaster like cyclones, soil salinity. The women are continuously struggling with poverty, natural disasters and social conflicts. BEDS has identified that the women are interested in tailoring like small cottage industry and some of them are good in tailoring. But they are unable to conduct the activity commercially due to the lack of proper training and money. For this reason, BEDS has taken an initiative to empower 50 women of Mathurapur village by developing their skill on sewing and also providing them equipments related to sewing through raising fund from GlobalGiving platform.
