Women are doing sewing to change their lives
Women are doing sewing to change their lives

Bangladesh is a developing country. People from every sector are working hard and soul to improve their socio-economic condition of them as well as Bangladesh. The country is internationally recognized for its good progress on a number of gender indicators. There are several steps are taken to ensure right, power to the women. The scenario of Mathurapur village is quite different. The people of this region live below the poverty line and struggling every moment for their survival. Women of this region continuously struggle with poverty, salinity and natural disaster. They usually do not have such educational background to do some job. But women have to contribute to their family income. For this reason, most of them collect shrimp fry and fuel woods from Sundarbans which is very risky for their life.

Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has been working to improve the livelihood of the struggling women by homestead vegetable gardening, duck and ram raring etc. BEDS has identified that the women are interested in tailoring like small cottage industry. But they are unable to perform such activity by the lack of money and proper training. For this reason, BEDS has taken an initiative to empower 50 women of Mathurapur village by developing their skill on sewing and also providing them equipments related to sewing through raising fund from GlobalGiving platform. The required budget for the project is 11,518 $ and so far 934 $ is raised from 23 donations. We provided them with few sewing materials with which they are now doing their activity. Their expression says it all that they are leading a better life than that of previous time.

So, it’s an appeal to all the donors for being kind to help those vulnerable women to give them a chance to come out from the cycle of poverty and lead a healthy life by starting monthly recurring donations.
