Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has been trying to improve the socio-economic condition of the women of Mathurapur village (Munshijang union of Shyamnagar sub district of Satkhira district) by providing several training like tailoring training.
Impact:
30 women got training on tailoring and they are engaged in tailoring. They are making dresses, bags and masks. Their family income has increased and their social condition has also been improved. They are contributing to their family income. Now they are leading as healthy and respectful life.
Feedbacks from the beneficiaries:
One of beneficiary expresses her felling. ‘‘I born in Mathurapur village and I live in this place with my family. There are 5 members in our family. I have two children. My husband is a Sundarbans resource harvester. He collects money and fishes from the forest. But he does his work only for a certain season in the year. I used to collect fuel woods from the forest and sell them, But the wage is very low. Sometimes, we starve in hunger. We did not admitted our children due to the lack of money. After getting the training from BEDS on tailoring, I started to take orders from local people as well as local market. Now I am getting much money from tailoring. I have admitted my children to school and now their education is going on. My daughter is a very bright student and she helps me to maintain the accounts. Now we can fulfill our basic needs and living a better life.’’
Capacity building training and sewing equipment are necessary for the women to improve their life standard. So, BEDS has taken an initiative to empower 50 women of Mathurapur village by developing their skill on sewing and also providing them equipment related to sewing through raising fund from GlobalGiving platform.
So, it’s a heartiest appeal to all the donors for being kind to help those coastal women to give them a chance to have an alternate employment opportunity and lead a better life.
