Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has been trying to improve the socio-economic condition of the women of Mathurapur village (Munshijang union of Shyamnagar sub district of Satkhira district) by providing several training like tailoring training.
Impact:
A few local women learned tailoring from the trainings provided by BEDS. They learned measurement and cutting of the cloths. BEDS supported some tailoring machine to them. Now a small cottage industry has been developed. More women are coming in their center and learning and making bags, masks and cloths with the women. They are getting much order from market and their socio-economic condition has also been increased.
Feedbacks from the beneficiaries:
Some of the beneficiary expresses their feeling. ‘‘We live in Mathurapur village. Before we used to collect fuel wood, seed from the forest and also collect shrimp fry. We worked from dawn to dusk. But we did not earn more. Many time, we got hurt. We took our little children with us and most of the time, they were suffering from diseases. We got training and tailoring machine from BEDS. After few days, we got order from the market and we started getting money by tailoring. Now a small cottage industry has been established. Now we are contributing to our family income. The support from BEDS was a blessing to us. Now we are living a better life. But there are other women how want to improve their condition by tailoring. But the tailoring machine is limited here. If we get some sewing machine, it will be helpful to the unprivileged women like us.
Capacity building training and sewing equipments are necessary for the women to improve their life standard. So, BEDS has taken an initiative to empower 50 women of Mathurapur village by developing their skill on sewing and also providing them equipments related to sewing through raising fund from GlobalGiving platform.
So, it’s a heartiest appeal to all the donors for being kind to help those vulnerable women to give them a chance to have an alternate employment opportunity and lead a better life.
