By M. Sabrin Ahmed Roty | Project Leader

Wal mate making by the coastal women
Wal mate making by the coastal women

The Sundarbans coastal is full of natural beauty and heritage of biodiversity. But there is no unmixed blessings in the world. Every year cyclones and super cyclones attack in this area and snatch the coastal lives. The people of this region below the poverty line and depend on the forest resources for their livelihood. Women of this region lead a miserable life. They deprived of the basic need of humans. BEDS has been working since 2013 for the livelihood improvement of the Sundarbans coastal community and BEDS is mainly focusing on empowering local women with nature-based solution. BEDS supported seeds of vegetables, chicken, sheep to the coastal women and also provided training on organic farming, livestock rearing, pickle making and handicraft making.

BEDS established BANOJIBI Agro Farm at Uttar Banishanta village of Dacope sub district, adjacent to Sundarbans. In BANOJIBI Agro Farm 25 women got training on handicraft making using the locally available non timber forest product. Now the women of this region are using dried fallen mangrove leaves to make Wal mat and selling the Wal mate in much higher price.

Capacity building training and equipment are necessary for the women to improve their life of the products. So, BEDS has taken an initiative to empower the coastal women by developing their skill and also providing them equipment through raising fund from GlobalGiving platform.

So, it’s a heartiest appeal to all the donors for being kind to help those vulnerable women to give them a chance to have an alternate employment opportunity and help to lead a better life.

We are requesting all our donors to start monthly recurring donation. Please click the following link; https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/changing-life-by-empowering-women/?show=recurring
