Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has been working to improve the living standard of the women of the coastal women by providing several trainings on integrated farming, tailoring, eco-tourism, home stay toursim and using nature-based solution for creating income generating opportunities.

BEDS trained the local women on using non timber forest products of Sundarbans. BEDS also established a brand for selling the products and also creating value chain for selling the products. BEDS trained the selected women of Sundarbans coastal region on mangrove pickle making. Sonneratia apetala (mangrove fruit) is a seasoner fruit and the fruits are available in the market. Now the local women are using the fruits to make mangrove pickle. Last year they sold the pickles and got much respond. This year they have taken the target to produce 850 kg of mangrove pickle for selling. They will be able to earn money from the nature-based solutions.

BEDS has only supported 25 women for mangrove pickle making. More vulnerable women are ready to conduct this type of small scale business of nature based solution. So, BEDS has taken an initiative to support 100 women of Sundarbans coastal women to become empowered using nature based solution through raising fund from GlobalGiving platform.

So, it’s a heartiest appeal to all the donors for being kind to help those vulnerable women to give them a chance to come out from the cycle of poverty and lead a respectful life.
