Tailoring brings fortune to the coastal women

By M. Sabrin Ahmed Roty | Project Leader

Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has been working to improve their economic condition since 2015. People of Mathurapur village live below the poverty line and subjected to several natural disaster like cyclones, soil salinity. In this area, it is difficult to grow crops and most of them depend on Sundarbans resources for their livelihood. They do not have any educational qualification that they get some job. They put their life in danger to live their livelihood and are trying heart and soul to come from the cycle of poverty.

BEDS has trained them on small scale farming like homestead vegetable gardening, duck and ram raring and sewing. Now they are sewing cloths, bags and masks by themselves and selling the products in the market. Thus, they are contributing to their family expenses. They said, “Now we do not need to risk our life to go Sundarbans to collect shrimp fry. Now there is no fear of tiger. We are earning money in our home by tailoring. We want to do more sewing work to support our family”.

BEDS training hard and soul to empower them by tailoring as there is no life risk and is also respected occupation. So, BEDS has taken an initiative to empower 50 women of Mathurapur village by developing their skill on sewing and also providing them equipments related to sewing through raising fund from GlobalGiving platform.

So, it’s a heartiest appeal to all the donors for being kind to help those vulnerable women to give them a chance to come out from the cycle of poverty and lead a risk free life and also making a better future for their future generation.

We are requesting all our donors to start monthly recurring donation. Please click the following link; https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/changing-life-by-empowering-women?show=recurring
