Project Report | Jan 21, 2015
News from the Ludoteca Jugando Aprendo

By Brendan Hieber | Project Member

Dear Friends,

It is with great pride and appreciation that I write to you, if only to be able to share through words what our project is making possible through actions. Jugando Aprendo, the small center with an enormous heart and growing capacity, enters the year 2015 having celebrated its 5th anniversary.

Tutoring and therapy sessions have remained constant activities, as many of the promotoras (advocate-mentors) learn more nuanced ways to serve the children, their mothers, and their community.

One of our regular attendees, Carmen, as well as one of the male promoters, Wanderly, now participate in a forum in which they represent their neighborhood, and serve as the "voice" for children from their district throughout greater Lima.

Mothers continue to know their children are learning to care for themselves, without the unfair burden of being forced to care for other people and property. Children learn to distinguish between household chores, and usurious and exploitive labor.

It can feel difficult to express the necessity of this place. In a vast, nearly inaccessible, peripheral urban slum, child laborers are freely given access to books, maps, games, mentors, psychological healthcare, and maybe most importantly, each other. The activities enacted at Jugando Aprendo will make impacts over a lifetime. Thank you.

We will always use your support to benefit our children. If you can, please give again.

Kind Regards,
