Thanks to donations from the general public and members, the IAHPC was able to collaborate with the Atlantes Global Observatory at the University of Navarra, in a joint project to provide training to palliative care professionals working in Africa. The course is free and includes 25-hour training on “Consultant in Global Assessment and Monitoring of National Palliative Care Development.” Sessions of the course will be held throughout 2024.
This pilot course designed by Atlantes Global Observatory teaches how to “use the indicators to evaluation the situation in their countries” based on the World Health Organization’s indicators. The course “offers practical advice on integrating palliative care into health systems" and for the integration of palliative care into health care policies.
This five-module course is taught through videos and documentation, and concludes with a questionnaire that assesses the participant’s country. Those who complete the course are accredited with 1 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) and are rewarded with a one-year IAHPC membership.
At the time of the submission of this report, 25 individuals from 11 different countries in Africa had registered and initiated the course. A future report will focus on the results of the course and training.
