The fight against poverty, particularly that of children, has been a national concern for several years in Burundi. Considering the multiple socio-economic challenges caused by the political crisis of 2015, it is clear that this fight has not yet been won. Despite several measures already taken by the country's authorized authorities, poverty seems to persist among certain categories of children and constitutes, in our eyes, an obstacle to the sustainable development of Burundi. A thorough understanding of the nature of child poverty is therefore essential to inform policy in decision-making and the development of appropriate programs to ensure a better childhood and future for these children. This study focuses on child poverty in Burundi. Poverty is defined, measured and analyzed from two different angles: • monetary poverty; • non-monetary poverty (multidimensional) using the MODA (Multiple Overlapping Deprivation Analysis) approach
The amount of 500 dollars has been support 20 people
A social safety net pilot project designed to support women and children has significantly reduced the effects of extreme poverty in four provinces of Burundi.
Acute malnutrition has decreased among the people who benefited from the project, while agricultural and livestock production as well as children's schooling have increased, to name just a few examples.
Funding from the Save Life Make Difference (SALIMADI), to the tune of $500, is in the process of extending the project to BUJUMBURA province in city of the country.
