Thank you for helping Little Hearts Home

The Little Lamps Home was hit hard by the flooding.  The waters rose quickly, it was night time and the electricity had been cut so everyone had to work quickly in the dark to shift all of the home’s ground floor occupants to higher floors.  For safety purposes the glass from the windows had been removed but in the severe rain of December 2015 the water poured through the open windows in torrents.  In spite of all the excitement everyone was safely moved and found a place to sleep through the night though their mattresses and bedding were all soaked.

The following morning found the water having fully submerged the ground floor.  A local college usually supplies the food for the mentally disabled that live at Little Lamps; and their cooking facility was also underwater.  But a combination of temporary cooking facilities and friends like you bringing cookies and milk, by rowboat, allowed everyone to get through the floods without too many hunger pains.  Everyone enjoyed living on cookies for 5 days.

Two people became sick, with high fever and had to be transported to the hospital by row boat.  An exciting drama for all; hopefully never to be repeated.

Due to your generous contribution and many others like you they have replaced all the mattresses and bedding that were destroyed by the flooding.  They again have regular food supplies and they have plans to establish a facility that is located outside the city.  It will be more modern, with up to date cooking facilities, better security and designed to accommodate and help those with mental disabilities to be rehabilitated so that they might return to their home and family.

Thank you very much for your generous and sacrificial gifts for the mentally disabled which were unable to care for or provide for themselves.  You have made a significant impact on their life which will provide benefits for years and years to come.
