The "talking flower"

Over the festive season being December - January the business of most organisations and institutes slow down and most people go on vacation to relax and be energized for "2018".

The Fikelela AIDS Project offices reopened close to the end of January 2018, the staff met as a team to plan the year ahead and Jerry Giraffe is part of our 2018 planning list to follow up on the five institutes that attended the training in October 2017. The Fikelela team will also have a visible presence and offer support to the five institutes who will train the program to (112) orphans and vulnerable children in their care.

We are excited with the feedback we received thus far: one of our institutes started a week ago to introduce the "talking flower and the Jerry Giraffe persona toy" to the children. The children responded very well and they understand the rules of the "talking flower",but they must still learn how to interact with "Jerry". But with given time the children will be able to trust Jerry more.

Other institutes have indicated that they will only start the prgramme at the beginning of March 2018 doing the 45 min per sessionn with age group  6-8 years old. They introduced the Jerry songs and actions in the meantime and the kids are enjoying the new games and songs. The facilitators are excited to start the new adventure with the children.

The trained child and youth care workers are using the Jerry Giraffe program and the children both young and older are enjoying the program. The trained child and youth care worker are looking at using the program more often so as to create a safe space for the childten to talk.
