Jerry Giraffe Sunday School Program Report May2019

By Mildred Jutzen | Field Worker

Fikelela Aids Program has been availed the opportunity to host July school holiday program from the 1-5th July 2019. The number of facilities has increased by almost double. We were privileged to engage with 1374 young children over a period of 5 days at our December 2018 school holiday program.

Our awareness programs went on display at the March 2019 Exhibit of Department of Community and Safety, this was a very proud moment for Fikelela Aids Project to have 130 organization exposed to our awarenes programs.

It is very heartwarming and encouraging to share that the children from different communities appreciate the time being spent to educate them around issues like child abuse, body pride and being proud of who you are.

Our Jerry Giraffe program covers these very important aspects and forms a good foundation for them not only to learn but to share with their classmates and family members in their home environment. We have also realized that despite the program being geared at young children, our parents need to be engaged and educated, to make them more comfortable to speak about what is happening in the big world out there.

The focus of our organisation is to reconnect and re-energize our churches and to encourage them to use the resources of the Jerry Giraffe program on going and even to reach out to our Schools and to get educators on the foundation phase invloved.

We have since the beginning of 2019 encouraged parishes to invite our team to re-introduce Fikelela Aids Project to the parishes and to identify where and how the parishes need us. We have since set up meetings on Archdeaconry levels to engage with clergy and presented a power point presentation on all of our programs including the Jerry Giraffe Sunday School Program.
