Jerry Giraffe Sunday School Report May 2020

By Mildred Jutzen | Field Worker

Our first Jerry Giraffe training session took place on 22 Feb 2020 we had an overwhelming response to the training session. Many of our churches new year cycle start in February, everyone has returned from their long summer holiday, all the kids are back at school and Sunday school.

The Fikelela Team boldly stepped up their bar to present the training without the usual partner facilitator.

We had 12 Sunday school teachers across 5 churches attend the training session. The training was presented in such a manner that all the attendees partook in group discussion and from their feedback it was clear that they were ready and excited to start the program with their Sunday school children, children attending their Friday youth groups and children within their communities.

All our attendees received A Jerry Giraffe resource pack that consist of: a Jerry Giraffe manual covering the 10 lessons based on the following important concepts:

  • Family & relationships
  • Making positive choices
  • Encouraging good self esteem
  • Expressing feelings
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Body pride and ownership
  • Child abuse awareness and safety skills
  • Modelling positive endings and saying goodbye.

Accompanied with a disk with songs, games, and chants relating to each lessons. The visual story book to accompany each lesson. A very helpful information folder to assist teachers step by step to address if any situation of child abuse if such is suspected.

The “Fikelela” team inform parishes on a regular basis to call upon our assistance wherever our help is needed.

Our current World wide situation relating to COVID 19 has resulted in all gatherings including church services to remain under Lockdown regulations, we not sure when the restrictions will be lifted and when it is safe for institutes like church’s to re-open.

We prayerfully place our Hope in Christ our saviour.
