Fikelela have trained forty three Sunday School teachers to help protect children from abuse at three different workshops. They are trained to run a ten week course, with fun activities, based on Biblical stories.
Fikelela have developed a 10 week child protection course, aimed at helping to prevent child abuse amongst Sunday school children.
The programme is supported by four “Child abuse champions” who are there to assist with referrals if teachers are worried that a child in their class may have been abused or is at risk. They are trained social workers and counsellors.
Teachers were excited to see how well the ten life skills lessons are linked with a Bible story.
Each parish receives a resource pack that consists of a variety of visuals that will help the children to enjoy the lesson and teach them valuable lessons in life. There are other useful tools such as the “talking flower “ which helps to create discipline and respect inside and outside of the Sunday school class.
The teachers are trained at two training sessions split over two Saturdays from nine to two.
