Help protect 1000 children from child abuse

Jerry the Giraffe training a success

By Mildred Jutzen | Programme manager

Fikelela AIDS Project conducted a survey to find out who woudl like to be trained to run Gerry the Giraffe child awareness programme.

Currently 27 churches are running the programme with 53 teachers trained

The response was very positive with teachers mentioning that children are opening up to them in this safe space. Children are excited to meet Gerry each week and to learn about feelings, safe secrets and the parts of the body which are special and that no one should touch. This is a fun way to learn important life skills

So the team are busy preparing for hte next workshop, with the resource packs!

Capetown sadly has very high levels of child abuse and the Sunday School class offers a save place to teach the children the skills they need to protect themselves.
