Fikelela Aids Project offered the opportunity to the Anglican Children’s Homes and Community based homes to attend training for our Jerry Giraffe Sunday School programme.
The workshop was held at the Leliebloem home in Crawford on the 30th October 2017 we had 19 participants attending the Jerry Giraffe workshop. The numbers of children who will benefit from this training session are 112. Miemi Saffi of Think Twice facilitated the workshop with the assistance of the Fikelela Team . The participants representing their institutes were blessed with a resource pack at no cost which would enable the homes to facilitate the programme at their facilities.
Fikelela has made it possible for the resource to be offered and shared with our Anglican Churches and their surrounding communities. This is to create awareness of children being raped, molested, and abused. The daily newspapers highlight these challenges and realities to us as a society.
Our vision is to mobilise in partnership with others and to continue to offer the service to educate, engage and empower.
Comments and feedback from participants: excitement and they cannot wait to implement the programme. It was introduced at a very basic and easy level. They appreciated the easy guidelines as to how to address serious issues at a level of a child. The tools and discipline guidelines were the best!!! The tools and teaching methods used addresses feelings and how to treat each other, this was highlighted as enjoyable and relevant to assist in developing and nurturing a better future. Teaching life skills to children from a young age is a good starting point in their life and presents an opportunity to strengthen their foundations. The songs and dances used creates loads of fun and at the same time making teaching a whole lot easier.
If you would like the opportunity for the programme to be used at your Sunday School please contact the office on : 021 469 3775 or send your request via email to fikelela@ctdiocese.org.za
