As rates of childhood obesity continue to rise, 2nd Recess has committed itself to teaching the importance of regular exercise and healthy dietary habits to children and families within San Diego. It is the goal of 2nd Recess to have kids come away from the program with a basic understanding of healthy habits and a new sense of curiosity for the sport of running that can last a lifetime.
With more funding, the 2nd Recess program will be able to open additional sites in the City Heights area of San Diego. The program is designed to teach children ages 4-13 about the importance of physical activity and healthy eating habits. The region of City Heights has documented high rates of food deserts in the community.
The timely goals of 2nd Recess are to expose more children and their families in key communities about healthy physical activity and eating habits that are affordable and maintainable.
