My first visit to the New Life Centre (NLC) in February 2010 was as part of a building team to help with the construction of a Vocational Training Centre sited opposite the school which Alindra, the Director and Founder had previously set up. It was a challenge but one that spurred me on to support the NLC as a regular volunteer, visiting every two years and witnessing the huge impact this rural school in West Bengal has had to improve the life chances of children from this economically poor area.
The school continues to thrive and some pupils who have completed their secondary education, have progressed to higher education via college, university or nurse training courses with support from Hands Around the World. Alindra’s vision of education being the pathway to self-fulfilment and a means of contributing to the betterment of the community are being realised.
Thanks to our partnership, one pupil, Afsana, remained in education until she was 18 and, with our continued support, qualified as a nurse. She now plans to return with her husband and open a small health clinic for local residents.
Can you help further these developments?
Thank you for your on-going support, it makes a huge difference.
