Seeds and Sheep Provide So Much for a Family

By Alyssa | Beneficiary

My name is Alyssa and I am a widow raising two boys and three girls. I could not believe my luck at being selected for the American Foundation for Children with AIDS program in 2018, as my life had been very difficult trying to raise the children.

After the training received at the American Foundation for Children with AIDS, I was given seeds (corn, peanuts, beans, and various vegetables) and 4 sheep. I worked hard and those sheep gave birth to many and I was able to return the loan to AFCA, while keeping quite a few sheep for my family. Little by little I sold some sheep and saved the money, until I was able to build a little house! I rent this house to a family and the income allows me to continue to work in the field and pay for our healthcare, to feed the children and to pay for their school. This is something I never thought would be possible and I am so grateful.

Today I have 14 sheep in the household and I reached this number today thanks to the American Foundation for Children with AIDS and all the support they continue to give me. I sincerely thank you for everything you have done for me! I keep saving my seeds each year, as I was taught, and we have plenty to eat and we sell the excess. This is a wonderful project and I am blessed to be part of it.

The team here at the American Foundation for Children with AIDS thanks you for supporting this project and the work we do for the children in Africa.  If you would like to learn even more about what we do or how you can meet some of the children you have helped, please contact Tanya Weaver at tweaver@AFCAids.org.
