The project aims to do prevention and intervention activities for vulnerable children in the North-Western zone of Tigray. Our interventions are ranging from baby formula for motherless babies, rehabilitation of street children, Gender based Violence interventions, tracing and reunification of abandoned babies, foster-to-adopt services and school support. Interventions are useless without prevention like awareness raising and trainings in communities.
In the North-Western zone of Tigray, many children live in crisis situations. As a result of the armed conflict in 2020-2022, the problems are many. Babies loose their mothers in childbirth, babies are abandoned, children have decided to move to the street, young girls are being raped or trafficked, many children are not able to go to school due to the rising cost of living and many children still live in camps for displaced people where they are exposed to violence and rape.
Intervention should go hand in hand with prevention and Abraham's Oasis will do both. We assist the babies, rehabilitate street children and girls who have been raped. We encourage children to go to school but at the same time we work with communities, raising awareness on trafficking, child labour, Gender Based Violence, parenting skills training and harmful traditional practices, domestic adoption and economic empowerment of female headed households.
The long-term impact of this project will be understanding communities in which children can thrive, thus reducing the incidence of children moving to the streets, more children staying in school and less babies who need our intervention as the community structures will be able to take care of them.
