Nothing is more heartbreaking for a child then seeing their mother being beaten by their father. Children love both the batterer and the victim, propelling a child into a world where subconscious behavior for survival manifest. Some side with the batterer for survival. Some with the victim out of empathy. Most will grow up to either be batterer's or victim's themselves.
Earlier this year we were able to start the process of professional counseling for two brothers and their younger sister who had witnessed horrific domestic violence and had been victims of child abuse themselves for most of their lives. Last month we received the following email from one of the brothers. "We are so happy. We got a dog! Her name is Chloe. We got her from the animal shelter. Mom is going to go back to school and get her college degree. It makes us sad sometimes when we think of what happened but our counselor is helping us look to the future. I hope one day we can help other families."
Thank you for helping us help the children!
