Free Dental Camp for the school children

By Savarinathan Maria Arasu | Founder Director

Free dental camp for school children
Free dental camp for school children

A Dental Camp was successfully conducted at Sabari Vidhyashram Higher Secondary School, Puducherry, on 13th January 2016, with the objective of promoting oral health awareness and providing essential dental check-ups for students. The initiative was organized to address the growing need for preventive dental care among school children, who often lack access to regular oral health services due to financial constraints or limited awareness about dental hygiene practices.

The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various age groups. A team of qualified dental professionals from Vel Dental Clinic carried out detailed oral examinations, carefully assessing the dental health of each student. The screening process included checking for common dental issues such as cavities, gum infections, plaque accumulation, tooth decay, misalignment of teeth, and other oral hygiene concerns. Students who required further treatment or specialized care were provided with appropriate guidance and referrals for follow-up consultations.

In addition to the dental screening, the camp also focused on educating students about the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene. The dental professionals conducted interactive awareness sessions explaining proper brushing techniques, the significance of regular flossing, and the need to maintain a balanced diet for healthy teeth and gums. The sessions were designed in a simple and engaging manner, helping students understand how daily habits directly impact their oral and overall health. Demonstrations were conducted to show the correct way of brushing, encouraging students to adopt better oral care practices in their daily routine.

Teachers and school staff also actively supported the initiative by coordinating student participation and reinforcing the importance of dental hygiene among the children. The camp not only helped in identifying existing dental problems but also created awareness among students about preventive healthcare measures, thereby reducing the risk of serious dental complications in the future.

Many students benefited from the camp as it provided them with their first professional dental check-up. Early identification of dental issues allows timely intervention, which is crucial in ensuring long-term oral health. The initiative also emphasized the importance of routine dental visits, which is often overlooked in many communities. By bringing dental services directly to the school premises, the camp ensured accessibility and convenience for students who may otherwise face challenges in seeking professional dental care.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Vel Dental Clinic for their valuable collaboration, professional expertise, and dedicated service. Their commitment and willingness to serve the community played a vital role in the successful implementation of the camp. Their team demonstrated exceptional care, patience, and compassion while attending to each student, making the experience comfortable and educational for the children.

Such collaborative health initiatives significantly contribute to building healthier communities by promoting preventive healthcare and raising awareness among young individuals. Encouraging children to adopt good oral hygiene practices at an early stage helps in developing lifelong healthy habits, ultimately improving their quality of life.

Through this Dental Camp, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting the well-being of children by facilitating essential health services and awareness programs. Together with dedicated partners like Vel Dental Clinic, we continue to strive towards creating healthier smiles and stronger communities for a brighter and healthier future.
