Fund Community Health Screening in Madina, Ghana

NEED FOR SUPPORT

By Marlene Keller | Deputy Programmes Manager

Project Overview The health screening project aimed to provide critical health screenings for common but serious health conditions such as Malaria, HIV, Hepatitis B, Hypertension, and Diabetes in underserved communities. Early diagnosis of these conditions significantly reduces morbidity and mortality. Additionally, eye screenings were included to support individuals in maintaining good vision, essential for their daily livelihoods. The project also provided health counseling to promote better health practices among community members.

Funding and Current Status The project set a total fundraising goal of $4,005; however, only $82 has been raised so far, leaving a funding gap of $3,923. Due to this significant shortfall, we regret to announce that all activities under this project are currently paused. Without adequate financial resources, we are unable to procure necessary medical supplies, arrange health screenings, or facilitate community outreach efforts.

Challenges Faced Several barriers contribute to the difficulties in executing this project, including:

  • Limited Funding: Insufficient funds prevent us from covering the costs of screenings, medical personnel, and essential supplies.

  • Access Constraints: Many of the targeted communities face infrastructural challenges, such as poor road networks and lack of healthcare facilities, making outreach even more difficult.

  • Healthcare Affordability: Without external support, many individuals in these communities cannot afford even basic medical care, highlighting the critical need for this project.

Future Prospects While the project is currently paused, we remain committed to resuming operations as soon as sufficient funding is secured. AFAWI continues to seek alternative funding sources and partnerships to revitalize this essential initiative. The project’s long-term goal remains to provide free health screenings and education to approximately 800 individuals in the first three months upon resumption.

Call to Action We urge donors, stakeholders, and community members to support this project. Every contribution brings us closer to reactivating our efforts and ensuring that life-saving screenings reach those in need. Until we secure the necessary resources, we will continue advocating for funding opportunities to bring this project back to life.
