Summary

We will bring quality arts and play to 1000+ displaced children in Jordan and Bulgaria living through crisis. Through colourful, magical music and arts sessions, we will bring our trauma-informed play to children in refugee camps and temporary accommodation where, due to war and displacement, children are living scared, traumatised & missing out on their right to play. We help improve their skills and wellbeing, making sure they can access moments of childhood, happiness, respect and positivity.

Challenge

There are an estimated 3,400 unaccompanied children seeking shelter in Bulgaria since end 2023, the majority in Harmanli camp are Syrian refugees. In Al Zaatari refugee camp Jordan, over 58% of refugees are children aged 0-17. Many having been born in the camps, they face extreme hardship and danger. Lack of education, living in poverty, ill or malnourished, the daily reality for these children is no opportunity to play, positivity or learning. They are disrespected, abused and traumatised.

Solution

Our magical, musical, arts & circus activities are carefully designed to bring joy, respect, laughter, silliness & play to children in refugee camps. Children who are otherwise ignored and forgotten will access the magic of the circus, with our big top tent in Bulgaria and amazing equipment in Jordan, they will feel valued & that their happiness matters. We will deliver 3 sessions a day for 6 weeks in each camp reaching 1000+ children so they develop new skills, confidence & improved wellbeing.

Long-Term Impact

Our sessions are shown to improve mood, relationships & skills & help children process difficult challenges & social contexts. Long-term impact through shared, positive experiences includes improved mental health & psychosocial, cognitive & emotional wellbeing. Play develops essential life-skills like confidence, resilience & interaction plus increased activity & physical skills like agility, co-ordination and balance. Families benefit from improved trust, respect, pride & relationships.
