LIGHTING THE PATH TO HEALTHIER HOMES THROUGH CLEAN

By Othieno Gerald | Project Leader

This reporting period marked an important step toward improving the health and well-being of rural families in Eastern Uganda. Women participated in practical training sessions on constructing improved cookstoves using affordable, locally available materials. These stoves significantly reduce indoor smoke and require much less firewood than traditional cooking methods. As a result, households are experiencing cleaner kitchens and safer cooking environments.

Beyond the technical training, women also received entrepreneurship skills to help them transform stove production into a source of income. Participants learned business planning, customer engagement, and marketing strategies, enabling them to reach more households within their communities. Early successes are already emerging as trained women begin producing and selling cookstoves locally.

Community awareness campaigns have further increased interest in clean cooking technologies. Families are learning about the health risks associated with smoke exposure and the environmental benefits of reducing firewood consumption. Many households have expressed enthusiasm about adopting the improved cookstoves due to their affordability and efficiency.

The project continues to create meaningful change by improving health outcomes, reducing environmental degradation, and empowering women economically. We are grateful to our donors whose support is helping build healthier families and more sustainable communities throughout Eastern Uganda.
