Carry the Future is a volunteer-run organization working in a number of refugee communities around the world to meet needs that otherwise go unmet. One of the greatest unmet needs for refugee families today is a reliable supply of clean diapers. Many families in Greece receive only one clean diaper per child per day. In 2019 alone, we provided 270,000 clean diapers, and we want that number to grow in 2020.
Refugee families face constant uncertainty, and refugee parents confront a number of unique obstacles in providing for their children. Particularly in Greece, we see an enormous need for clean diapers. Many of the families we serve would have access to only one diaper per day if not for Carry the Future and our donors. We're the sole diaper provider for three refugee camps in Greece, and additional communities approach us regularly. We want to meet the need for every refugee family.
Our small size and unique volunteer-run model allow us to be nimble. We work with trusted partners on the ground to meet needs in real time. Currently, diapers are in high demand, so we spend as many resources as possible to meet that particular need. In 2019 alone, we provided 270,000 clean diapers in addition to many other forms of aid. We're proud to work with a local family-owned Greek diaper importer, Oikon, to purchase aid in-country and to benefit the local economy.
We believe a child's safety and future always comes first and that access to diapers and essential hygiene supplies is critical for the long-term health and well-being of refugee communities. We provide diapers to alleviate one major stressor from families' lives, and to provide a safer, healthier community for babies and their siblings and parents. In the long-term, Carry the Future and our donors hope to ease the burden of refugee families' journeys to safety and security in a tangible way.
