A major problem facing emergency relief crews is delivering clean drinking water. The "Aguadapt" takes our already certified ceramic water filter and makes it easily adaptable to nearly any container in just minutes. This fund will help us finish prototype testing, mold the adapters, and ultimately create a stock of adaptable water filters that can be distributed to vetted partner organizations - providing clean drinking water in disaster areas in Mexico and beyond.
Shipping bottled water, typical in disaster situations, is inefficient, temporary, and simply too costly to sustain over an extended period, especially for those cut off from major roads and services. Emergency filters and "straws" are practical after the immediate aftermath but not suitable for long-term use. We are creating a water filter that is easy to use, assembled with locally-available materials, and can ultimately transition from disaster relief to a secure, permanent water solution.
Our certified Ceramic Filter is affordable and extremely effective at eliminating biological pathogens. It is about the size and weight of a liter of bottled water, but can produce more than 25,000 liters of safe drinking water over its lifetime. By improving our Ceramic Filter with a universal adapter, we have developed a solution that ships easily and can be installed in any bucket or container. It can also be easily adapted to remove organic chemicals and other contaminants.
Having a readily available stock of 2,000 Ceramic Filters, with universal adapters, will allow us to provide safe drinking water to people living in natural or man-made disaster areas, refugee camps, and any other places or situations where safe drinking water is scarce. This project allows for the total distribution of up to 4,000 filters - providing safe drinking water for upwards of 24,000 people immediately following disasters and for years to come after the disaster subsides.
