Summary

This project will provide clean and safe drinking water to rural schools in Uganda to improve health, attendance, and learning outcomes for girls. Many students walk long distances for unsafe water or go without drinking during school hours. This project installs sustainable water systems so girls can stay healthy, in school, and focused on their education.

Challenge

In rural Uganda, many schools lack access to clean and safe water. Students walk long distances for hours and often rely on unsafe sources like rivers or shared community wells. This leads to waterborne diseases, missed school days, and poor concentration. Girls are especially affected due to additional hygiene needs during menstruation. Lack of water reduces attendance, increases dropout risk, and affects overall learning outcomes and school performance.

Solution

This project installs clean water systems such as boreholes, rainwater harvesting tanks, and handwashing stations in rural schools providing 500 students annually with clean water access. Ensures safe drinking water is available on-site every day. Hygiene education will also be provided to students and teachers. This reduces disease, improves school attendance, and supports girls' dignity and confidence, especially during menstruation, keeping them consistently in school.

Long-Term Impact

This project will provide clean water access to at least 10 rural schools, benefiting over 5,000 students. Expected outcomes include reduced waterborne illness, improved attendance, better hygiene practices, and increased focus in class. Girls will experience fewer barriers related to menstruation and sanitation. Long-term, access to clean water will improve educational outcomes and support healthier, more productive school environments.
