The project will construct a manual well to provide clean and safe drinking water to over 1000 Fulani people in Mogni Village of Foumbot Sub-Division of The West Region of Cameroon. It aims to reduce infant mortality and the prevalence of cholera and other water born diseases among Fulani women and their children who shares water from dirty sources with livestock, and currently have no support for the provision of clean water. It will also provide training on sanitation and water treatment.
Mogni is a small village in Foumbot Sub-Division, West Region of Cameroon, with population of about 1700 people. Of its 1700 population, 65% constitute the Fulani community who depend on grazing and agriculture for their livelihood. They lack access to clean water and depend on dirty streams for drinking water where they travel miles and share with livestock. Lack of drinking water has led to the prevalence of cholera and death of at least 10 children in this community annually.
The project will construct a well with a manual pump to provide clean and safe drinking water for Fulani community in Mogni village, Foumbot Sub-Division of Cameroon, who further isolated themselves from village square to live in the interior part of the village for grazing and agriculture. It will provide training on hygiene and sanitation and on water treatment and management for Fulani Women in Mogni village to reduce the prevalence of cholera and infant mortality.
With the construction and installation of a well with a manual pump, over 1000 people will have access to clean and safe drinking water. There will be an improvement in health and well-being and a significant reduction in infant death caused by cholera and other water born diseases amongst Fulani women and their children.
