This project will provide 11,970 students in 45 villages in Burkina Faso with 45 boreholes to make drinking water available. The action of Global NEEED Burkina will contribute to improve the living conditions of the population through the reduction of cases of water-related diseases, to reduce the time reserved for fetching water by women and children. It will also raise the school attendance. In short, this project will raise students' school performance.
The access to clean water constitutes a great challenge for the population of the north region of Burkina Faso. The population in general and particularly students are affected. Indeed, the students are often absent from classes as they have to stay home and help their mothers to fetch water. In addition because of the lack of clean water students suffer from water-borne diseases. Thus, they cannot concentrate on their school activities and perform well. The main beneficiaries are students.
The project will help the students to have access to clean water by providing schools with waterdrills.
The project has many long-term effects.First, the health of 11970 students will be improved and their school attendance will raise. The water can be used for planting trees in the school and for gardening. This will undoubtedly improve their school results and give them a good environment. Second, this project will serve the whole community. Indeed the community's health will be improved and thus they will be more active. Women will have more time to invest in income generating activities.
