Access to clean water remains a major challenge in northern Burkina Faso. Having a water source at school is not a luxury but an absolute necessity. Access to clean water ensures the long-term health of students and staff. Statistics on clean water resources in the Yaadga region remain alarming despite the efforts of the government and NGOs. Childhood illnesses linked to unsafe water lead to prolonged absences among students. Since its inception, Global NEEED Burkina (with the support of its partners) has been providing clean water sources to schools in the region's municipalities. Access to clean water significantly reduces illnesses such as diarrhea, malaria, and other diseases, allowing students to focus on their studies.
Beyond health, clean drinking water promotes school attendance and good academic results. Students who drink clean water stay well-hydrated and rarely get sick. This improves concentration in class and overall performance. Without the support of these boreholes drilled by Global NEEED Burkina, students would have to travel long distances from school in search of water.
The boreholes drilled by Global NEEED Burkina have increased school enrollment and attendance rates. The boreholes attract more students, enhance schools as local community centers, and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. Investing in a borehole today in northern Burkina Faso guarantees a future for the population in general and for children in particular.
