The Yacoobi Foundation Center is located in a very poor village on the outskirts of Herat City. Prior to 1979, this was a farming area and few people lived here. Now many people from other provinces have come to live in the area because of the poor economic situation in their provinces. There are few services in the area. Because the road was so bad, the people of the area joined together to fix the road. The people of the area say this is the “best educational center for their women and daughters.” Currently, the center is the only place for quality education and education for women in the area. Recently, AIL created space in the center for a health clinic to be held several days each month because there is no health clinic nearby. Students come from other villages near Asia Kalokhi Village because the elders and parents believe that this center is very safe for their women and girls. What this Center and the community it serves need now is clean water and this well will provide that. So far your donations have helped us raise $1,533 of the $6,200 we need to dig the well. We are hoping to raise the additional funds we need by the end of April 2012.
Please keep in mind that Wednesday, March 14, 2012 is Bonus Day through Global Giving. Donations up to $1,000.00 will be provided with a 30% match. The bonus allotment is $50,000.00 and the period runs from 12:01 AM EST until the funds are exhausted. So, if you would like your donation to go a little further with the help of Global Giving, give early on March 14th. Thank you!
