84% of the population does not have access to safe drinking water in Pakistan.The condition is even worse in the rural areas(Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources).The water from 14% of water supply sources in Punjab were found to be heavily contaminated with arsenic, well above the permissible limit of 50 parts per billion.The pilot project will focus on installing of RO treatment plants in 3 rural areas of Tehsil Samundri for clean drinking water and will expand it to 10 rural areas
Pakistan is among the top 10 countries of the world with greatest number of people living without access to safe water,according to a WHO report.As many as 16 million people in the country have no choice but to collect unsafe water from unsafe sources.Hepatitis,diarrhea,joints pain, vomiting,weakness and fatigue attack and abdominal and stomach pain are some common health problems occurred from contaminated water."Poor water distribution system is the main reason behind water-borne diseases.
To provide clean drinking water, AWARD Pakistan will install 3 Water treatment RO plants in 3 marginalized rural areas of Tehsil Samundari and later extend this program to 10 rural areas to give the marginalized rural population, especially women and children an access to safe drinking water and save them from deadly diseases.
1) Access to clean drinking water 2) Decrease in the waterborne diseases in the target areas. 3) Decrease in the number of deaths among infants and kids. 4) Healthy mother and Child. 5) Community taking care of the project on self help basis after a year.
