During this quarter the COMAL network continued its work in providing training on fish farming. Building on its experience in western Honduras, COMAL delivered 8,100 gray tilapia fingerlings to communities in Santa Barbara: Pozas Verdes, El Rosario, Piedras Negras, Calpules, Vella Vista, Terreritos, Col. 15 de Septiembre and Buena Vista. Twenty-seven families have committed to this production. Successful fish production will benefit the communities at large by making available an important nutrient to rural households. The General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture (DIGEPESCA) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Honduras collaborated in this process. COMAL provided two trainings in which 45 producers participated.
During this period, the COMAL network also conducted regional meetings throughout Honduras in its eight membership regions. In Santa Barbara, as in the other regions, COMAL leadership shared its Strategic Plan 2026 – 2030, which includes upcoming actions for protection of the environment and agroecological organization, production and marketing. An important element of the regional meetings included a focus on the contribution of women in strengthening rural economies and the continuing need for the respect of economic, social, cultural and environmental rights.
We thank you for your solidarity with the women and men of our communities who strive for a healthier and just world.
