Looking Ahead After 40 Years of Climate Solutions!

By Daniel Bresette | President

One of the best ways to appreciate the important and unique role that EESI plays in the climate advocacy community is to spend a few minutes with former U.S. Rep. Richard L. “Dick” Ottinger.

More than anyone else, Dick is the person responsible for the creation of EESI. It was his vision, in the wake of the monumental environmental laws of the early 1970s, to establish an organization to provide timely, nonpartisan, and science-based educational resources about climate change to policymakers. Still today, we are fortunate to have Dick's leadership and counsel as the chair emeritus of our board of directors.

Dick has enjoyed a great career, from his time in Congress to his appointment as dean of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. And through it all, as he mentions in a recent profile, one of his greatest achievements was helping establish EESI.

Thank you for sharing Dick’s commitment to sustainability. I know how much Dick values your partnership because he tells me so. You have been essential to EESI at every step.

I hope you will take a few moments to read the full profile about Dick that we published to celebrate his recent birthday. We will be publishing many more articles in the coming months to commemorate 40 years of EESI. By joining us on the journey through our storied past, and continuing to partner with us in the future, you can help make possible another multi-decade run of impact by advancing climate change solutions.

P.S. EESI is now on Bluesky! Check us out on our new social media platform as well as LinkedIn and Instagram to stay connected and learn about all the goings-on at EESI that you are making possible.
