Due to climate-induced hazards and silted rivers create waterlogging in Satkhira. This area is suffering waterlogging by the last 3 years for which 400 HHs are suffering from food, water & health insecurity. The project will provide livelihoods, health, water support & long-term recovery assistance Cash for work for re-built housing & Sanitation, plinth raising & canal re-excavation. Resilient farming activities for livelihoods and Pond Sand Filter for water security will be implemented.
Coastal districts of Bangladesh are dynamic active delta for which river accretion is predominant. River siltation is a continuous process. Due to climate-induced sea-level rise, the silted river lost water recession which causes waterlogging in some parts of this region. Satkhira Sadar is one of the waterlogged areas which is facing from waterlogging for the last three years. As a result, 400 HHs of this village are suffering from health, food & water insecurity.
Earthwork: Canal & pond re-excavation will ensure water recession & raising plinth considering the highest submergence level that will rescue waterlogged households from further logging. Adaptive Livelihood Activities: Agro-based livelihood activities are totally restricted for waterlogging so that we will promote adaptive livelihood activities e.g. RAS & Cage fish Farming, homestead farming, semi scavenger duck rearing. WASH: PSF & Sanitary latrine will ensure water security & health hygiene.
The project will resilient 400 HH's in the climate-vulnerable waterlogged community of Satkhira. In the long run, canal re-excavation, plinth raising will mitigate waterlogging in and around the community. on the other hand, adaptive livelihood interventions will improve livelihood options & nutrition and WASH facilities will ensure health safety, water security for the community.
