Summary

The Imani House Maternal & Child Health Clinic was founded in 1992 to provide free care and relief to thousands of Liberians affected by the Civil War. Over 20 years later, it has become a full service healthcare facility serving 17,000 women and children each year. In 2013, funding from our primary donor of 7 years came to an end. As we transition to longer-term support, your donation will be vital in ensuring the Clinic stays open to provide essential, life-saving care to those in need.

Challenge

More than 10 years post-conflict, most Liberians still live in poverty and lack access to quality, affordable healthcare. Patients often walk long distances for care and risk being turned away due to a lack of staff or medical supplies. Malnutrition, HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases are rampant, and Liberia's maternal and infant mortality are among the highest in the world - nearly 15% of children die by their first birthday, and pregnant women face a 1 in 24 chance of dying giving birth.

Solution

Our all-Liberian staff offer integrated healthcare services to 17,000 Liberians per year. From immunizations, emergency care & Malaria treatment, we provide our patients with quality, affordable care. By training midwives with the Ministry of Health and providing pre/postnatal care and family planning, we help to improve maternal health in the area. We also act as a community educator and resource to provide families with health education on prevention, hygiene, and sanitation.

Long-Term Impact

IHI not only provides care, resources, and education to promote the health and wellbeing of its community, it also serves as a model for locally driven, internationally supported grassroots development. We know that when provided with opportunities for health, people can and do take ownership of the improvement of their lives and communities. Your donation will help us to ensure that area residents continue to receive quality, affordable healthcare and our staff continue to earn a living wage.
