Challenge

According to current statistics given by the National Institute of Statistics Rwanda, in 13 million people in Rwanda, 446,543 of them are persons with disabilities and it's difficult to many of them to access to local online services, and the available software applications that help them in their daily life, they are expensive and many of them don't fit into our local context. In addition, it's still a challenge for them to choose IT as a career.

Solution

To create a platform where persons with disabilities will learn more about ICT and Assistive Technology while also collaborating, connecting and innovating local and affordable Digital Assistive Technologies that meet their needs. The trainees will be introduced to potential employers and the platform will also be a resource center for Assistive Technology, and awareness raising on Assistive Technology mostly targeting decision makers will be another activity of the center.

Long-Term Impact

In the long term, the trained youth with disabilities in the center will have skills which will help them to access online services, contribute in the design of accessible websites in Rwanda and in the design of apps that meet users with disabilities needs. In addition, they will be supported to look for jobs in tech industry.
