Challenge

There are currently no formal schools that offer computer coding skills for children from poor communities in South Africa. There are just proposals from government to offer coding skills in public schools. South Africa suffers from a dearth of relevant technology skills for the 4th industrial revolution. South African children are dunces in STEM subjects compared to other children in the world. Teaching computer coding skills can help stir children's interest in STEM to boost scarce skills.

Solution

The project will solve the problem as follows in terms of results and outcomes: 1.Number of 4.5 through 17 children enrolled. A substantive or large number of children from disadvantaged communities have access to coding skills 2.Increase in number of children enrolled in STEM Subjects. Children have acquired algorithmic thinking skills, critical/analytical thinking skills, problem-solving skills 3.Digital entrepreneurship. Number of Start-ups: gaming applications & other innovations.

Long-Term Impact

1. Coding skills have been revealed to stir interest in STEM subjects 2. Digital entrepreneurship - children will be introduced to entrepreneurship at an early age to help boost start-ups in technology related business in the long term. 3. Attainment of coding skills will improve productivity in both the public and private. 4. Children will acquire coding skills which are skills for the 21st century, the 4IR and poverty alleviation. 5. Will help open more coding centres in South Africa and Afr
