Dear Friends of USAP and Education Matters,
Recently we received fantastic acceptance news including the fact that three members of the 2016 USAP Cohort have been accepted and fully funded to attend the University of Pennsylvania. Other full scholarships received recently include to Davidson College, the University of Toronto, Kalamazoo College, and Ashesi University. USAP gap year students from last year's cohort were accepted to schools which include Amherst, Oberlin and the University of British Columbia. Your donations will assist these and other students to meet enrollment costs such as visa and SEVIS fees, immunizations, and air tickets.
Recently our staff travelled Zimbabwe interviewing finalists for the 2017 USAP cohort. From over 900 applications, the student selection committee whittled it down to 127 finalists. For the first time in USAP history, we fulfilled our pledge to interview each and every finalist in a city near them. Clocking over 1600 kilometres, we interviewed USAP applicants in Gweru, Bulawayo, Masvingo, Mutare and Nyanga and then back to Harare. We were humbled by the amazing young people we met and the stories of what they have overcome to succeed at school. We had to make some very difficult choices to select our new cohort of 42 who will start this month. More big news is that we have launched USAP Zambia with a new cohort of 15 as well.
Thank you for your continued support as we grow and improve the USAP family!
Yours,
Education Matters/USAP Team
