The 3 years project will combat child, early and forced marriages and contribute to increased access to good quality education among girl children in Kibuku District in Uganda through advocating for girls rights to health, education, to live in security and to choose when and whom they marry. The project targets to rescue 785 girls aged 13-18 years from child, early and forced marriages and increase their access to good quality primary and secondary education.
Child, early and forced marriages continue to escalate in Uganda despite the existing laws on child safeguard. In 2020 council meeting, leaders in Kibuku district decried the rampant cases of forced marriages among teenage girls during coronavirus-related lockdown. The rampant causes of child, early and forced marriage is as a result of limited low knowledge on child and marriage rights
The project will train community leaders on girl child supportive laws and policies, Educate and rally parents community members on 2020 revised guidelines on pregnancy prevention and management in schools, Develop and print advocacy EIC materials, identify parents with pregnant girls and child bearing mothers, Meeting parents of pregnant and child bearing girls, Empower girls with skills and support networks, Provide economic support and incentives to girls families and Enhance girls' access
The project will enhance increased retention of girls in schools, Reduced girl child school dropout rate, Increased girl child school attendance, Increased completion of primary and secondary school education, Reduced child, early and forced marriages and Increased involvement of local community structures in enforcing policies on girl child rights.
